Berlin (Part 2)

Day 3 in Berlin — Pfaueninsel

Got up early in the day and took a train to Wannsee. Our ticket cost 2.70€ each one way, and it was about 35 minutes from the city centre. Of course we had a shitty itinerary (or rather, no itinerary at all) so when we heard that there was a "Peacock Island" just a bit outside the city, we had to go!!

Whoa.. are we back in the Middle Ages?!

Wannsee was a total breath of fresh air compared to the rest of Berlin and we excitedly ran across the road to get a closer look at this interesting looking statue.

Hmmm... notice anything wrong?! Mild graffiti but in all the right (wrong??) places!

So anyway... we arrived at Wannsee with very little knowledge on how to get to said Peacock Island (what did I say about bad planning?!). Pfaueninsel was recommended to me by a local Berliner that I befriended on Instagram and all she told me was that it was "just a short boat ride away to the island".

Turns out we had to take a bus from the station (pictured above) to get to the dock. It's Bus 218 for anyone curious. We checked the waiting time and it was 48 FREAKING MINUTES!!!! 48 minutes for the stupid bus. But that was nothing to us anymore at that point, having been through that crazy 5 hour waiting ordeal at Leipzig. If there's one thing I've learnt from my exchange in Europe at all it's that you have to be prepared to wait. A lot. Buses and trains are almost always on time, but the intervals between them is a whole other thing...

There are 'old' and 'new' 218 buses, we were lucky enough to get the old one.

The bus route on the way to the dock was really scenic because we had to go through a forest!

The queue to board the boat to Pfaueninsel

Now this is probably the best boat ride we have ever experienced in our short lives. We only had to fork out 3€ each for the boat ticket!! The both of us were expecting some sort of 15 minute boat ride (like Pulau Ubin, you know), but ohhhh noooooo!!! The entire ride lasted a grand total of 15 SECONDS!!!

Photo POV taken from our final destination, Pfaueninsel. Across the water, you can see WHERE WE WERE JUST 15 SECONDS BEFORE!!!

Greeted by a lovely peacock the second we disembarked from our treacherous boat journey

...aaand that was also the last peacock we saw for the entire day. For an island named entirely after peacocks, there sure aren't many. Jaryl and I both strongly believe it was taxidermied.

Pfaueninsel was really breathtaking, though. We spent the entire afternoon walking around the whole island till our feet hurt. Luckily, we started training for this day months ago at Coney Island in Singapore.

CONEY ISLAND, SINGAPORE

VS.

PFAUENINSEL, GERMANY

We wanted to fool you guys into thinking we were already in German. WTF were we thinking, one would be mad to walk around in a single t-shirt ahahaha

NOW FOR THE REAL PICTURES!!!!!!

 (BECAUSE I'M TIRED OF TYPING!)

Fake 18th century castle made of wood

We walked right to the far end of the island and stumbled upon a small chicken coop.

Moments before Jaryl got pecked by a cock. Dont f%#k with chickens, guys.

We both loved this scene because this young boy saw the chickens and immediately sat down to watch them because he was so fascinated

We also found some sheep on our way back

We thought that the little black lamb was a piece of shit at first because it was curled up on the ground and blended in, before it stood up and started walking of course....

DOES IT NOT LOOK LIKE POOP?

Thank goodness for zoom lenses. Now we all know it's a lamb for sure.

Also if you're wondering why we only have pictures with one particular sheep, it's because the others didn't give two sheeps about us. We had a strong connection with this one though, so it was all good.

Heading back to Wannsee. The 3€ covers your journey back and forth, don't worry ;-)

All in all, Pfaueninsel is a place I would really recommend if you have some time to kill in Berlin. Most people only visit the city for a few days but we had a total of 5 NIGHTSSSS (AGAIN, due to bad planning on our part hahaha) but I'm really glad we got to experience this not-so-peacock island!!
